If you need to use a quotation or a bit of paraphrasing, cite it. To avoid plagiarism, do all your explanations in your own words. It is against policy at all colleges and universities, because it amounts to intellectual theft, but my biggest concern is that plagiarism makes it impossible for me to see whether you know anything about the subject! If at any time any of your work is found to be plagiarized, all previous work will be reviewed and grades lowered accordingly. Plagiarism is "academic dishonesty", and it usually refers to the copying of someone else's words, phrasing or ideas without citing or referencing.
